HIDDEN GEM: Mac's Fish and Chips

MAC’S FISH & CHIPS is truly a hole in the wall but worth the look. This one is located in St. Paul, MN. The building use to be a gas station but they turned it into a fish and chip joint and thank goodness they did. It’s located off of Hamline and Larpenteur.

Look at these affordable prices! Everything is home made so they’re not skimping on quality to keep these good prices. If you don’t know what you like, don’t hesitate to ask the youngsters behind the counter. They always have good suggestions. My favorite is the halibut classic basket.

The halibut classic basket comes with chips which were hand cut fries, coleslaw, pickle, and homemade tartar sauce. The crispy batter kept the halibut juicy and tender. I like some malt vinegar on my fish and chips and I dip both in the tartar sauce. Very delicious!

The poutine is excellent! The gravy is drizzled over the cheese curds and hand cut fries. This was very filling for one person. I recommend you split this with a friend. Did I tell you the gravy is homemade too?

Each meal comes with dessert too. Their homemade slat water taffy is made daily at MACS. You can discover the flavor by trying out the taffy. I think this one was pumpkin pie and confetti cake? They were both delicious. Stop in and give it a try at MAC’S FISH & CHIPS.
