Experience free live music and dance performances from around the world while celebrating Midtown Global Market’s tenth anniversary

Minneapolis, Minn. (June 30, 2016) --- 2016 marks the tenth anniversary for Midtown Global Market. Opened in June of 2006, Midtown Global Market is an internationally-themed public marketplace offering groceries, great food and unique gifts. Owned by two non-profit entities, the Cultural Wellness Center and the Neighborhood Development Center, Midtown Global Market serves as a small business incubator whose mission is to provide access and opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs. Together, these entities make up the dynamic community gathering place that is Midtown Global Market. Highlighting the talent, ambition and cultural assets that characterize its neighborhood, Midtown Global Market has been a key contributor to the economic and social fabric of the community.


Throughout its ten year history, Midtown Global Market has incubated a variety of small businesses, many of which have opened additional locations, expanded and thrived. These merchants include: Manny’s Tortas, Rituals, Salsa a la Salsa, Jakeeno’s Trattoria, Andy’s Garage, LaLoma Tamales, Mapp’s Coffee, Simba Craftware, Holyland, Fiesta in America, Mill City Merchants, Grass Roots Gourmet, Tibet Arts and Gifts, Safari Express, Produce Exchange, Taqueria los Ocampo, Café Finspang and Pham’s Deli.


Midtown Global Market will be celebrating its tenth anniversary alongside the Midtown Global Music Festival onSaturday, July 9. It will be a day filled with multicultural music and dance, recognition and reflection to highlight Midtown Global Market as a center where the community gathers.


The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with a ceremony featuring words from R.T. Rybak, CEO of the Cultural Wellness Center Atum Azzahir and CEO of Allina Health Dr. Penny Wheeler. Each will speak of Midtown Global Market’s history and the development, growth and success throughout all ten years. Merchants who have been in The Market since the beginning will receive an award during this ceremony.


To kick off the annual Midtown Global Music Festival, In the Heart of the Beast puppets will set the stage for a Native American drumming ceremony. Throughout the day, the Festival will feature three stages with continuous music and dance performances from around the world. Performances will include: Aztec dance troupe Kalpulli Ketzalcoatlicue, Middle Eastern dance and belly-dancing lessons by Jawaahir Dance Company, Jazz music by Joel Shapira and CharminMichelleCommand Steppers featuring J. Most, good time folk music by Roe Family Singers, a free salsa dance class led by Rene Thompson, salsa party with Q-Band and to cap off the evening, attendees will enjoy an energizing Reggae music performance by The Wibesmen.

The vendors and restaurants in the Midtown Global Market will welcome diners and shoppers and many will be featuring $10 specials for the 10th Anniversary throughout the day.
